Seiftis

What is a Seiftis? Well my friends, it's a cleverly made-up word which squishes the name of two characters - Seifer and Quistis - into one and refers to the two as a couple. If you're like me and have been following the two ever since they were introduced as characters, you might remember them previously referred to as Quiefer, though some weird word revolution thing occurred on fanfiction.net or something rather.

Those of you who don't share my same sentiments - that these two would make a terrific couple - might be a little confused. Seifer and Quistis? Together? Don't they hate each other's guts? Isn't she too up-tight for him? Isn't he too hot-tempered for her? They don't make sense at all! Well, get ready to read my rambles.

I believe that they would fit each other, maybe not exactly perfectly like Squall and Rinoa, but they would fit nonetheless. Disregarding that they're both my two favorite video game characters and it would only make sense to put them together, Quistis and Seifer could have a fairly successful relationship if given the chance. They would have to work probably more than others to make it work, but it is possible.

Concerning the first question - don't they hate each other's guts? Quistis herself never explicitly says that she does hate her former student. In fact, she says that she might not have any good memories of him, but he wasn't really all that bad.
Quistis: I don't have any good memories of him. I've seen some troubled children, but he was beyond troubled. Well, he wasn't really a bad guy.
Quistis is not the type to lie, especially when talking to Squall following the news of Seifer's execution (this was her reply). We can deduct that Quistis never hated Seifer - after all, he was once her favorite student. No feelings of hate lie when you're considering your favorite student.

Seifer, on the other hand, is a matter that's hard to really explain. I'm somewhere between a Seifer-obsessor and a Seifer-expert - maybe not expert, but a specialist? - quite humble of me, huh? It's probably because I maintain the only active Seifer tribute on the net that I know of. To me, Seifer radiates a person who doesn't think before he opens his mouth, a person who absolutely says anything to get under people's skin, and a person who does not consider things worth apologizing for. Everything he does, he does without that much regret, because it's something that he himself persues. He does it for himself, and because of that every action he takes is justified.

With this in mind, Seifer doesn't treat Quistis any differently from anybody else. His "Instructor" is just the same as "Puberty Boy", "Chicken-wuss", and even "Messenger Girl"; he gives her no special treatment as he tells his Posse to "put her on the list." It's kind of hard to discern feelings of like for a person when Seifer treats everyone the same. But then again consider this - Seifer doesn't hate Squall; it's my personal belief that although Seifer's action may say otherwise, he really does in fact have some sort of awkward respect for his ultimate rival. Seifer doesn't hate Zell; to Seifer, Zell is just another person who he can easily get under his skin and tease relentlessly. Seifer doesn't hate Selphie; he barely knew Selphie at all, so how can you hate someone you only had the acquaintance of for two minutes? And although Seifer has gives trouble to Quistis and all his superiors, I think there's an inkling of respect for her...deep, deep down. Very deep; at the least, he doesn't hate her.

Concerning the next two questions - isn't she too up-tight for him? Isn't he too hot-tempered for her? The answer to that is "opposites attract." Quistis needs someone to keep her on her toes and not bore her to death. Seifer needs someone to keeps him in line, who lets him have her piece of mind, whether or not he wants it. They can learn from each other and along the way can mellow themselves out. Perfect!

If none of the reasons above sway you, just think at how good they look together. That should be reason enough :)
