Despite her self-doubts and personal insecurities, Quistis always does know what to do. She is able to take charge when things don't go all too well; once Timber is not safe to stay in anymore, it is Quistis who suggests that the group go to Galbadia Garden for safety precautions (actually, she prodded Squall for the answer, but the fact still remains that she would've needed to know regulations in order to get him to answer correctly).

As I've stated a bagazillion times, Squall and her affection for him is a large part of her character; in the beginning of the game, she focuses too much on getting Squall to reciprocate her feelings - even though Squall respects Quistis as a SeeD and Instructor, he just doesn't have an love-type interest in her. As the game progresses, however, Quistis does learn how to love just for the sake of it through her role of looking after each and every one of members of the Orphanage Gang.

Everything in this particular analysis is 100% true. I can't really argue anything about it or support anything, because any information given would just be redundant and I'm lazy.

I also remember back in the day when people used to debate on how to pronounce Quistis' name - KWISTIS or KISTIS? Apparently, the official pronounciation is KISTIS, which closely follows exactly how you would pronounce the name if it were French; "Qui" in French means "who", but I have no idea how to link that to Quistis herself.

FFCompendium also suggests that Quistis' name has a more mythological origin; Quistia was an ancient witch who cursed a manour in Lancashire. She said if another woman lives in the house, she will never be happy with a man. If that statement could be analyzed to mean that Quistis is living in the eternal home that is her body, then she could never be happy with a man - Squall, obviously. That could be seriously stretching it though.

As for Quistis' last name, Trepe is awfully similar to trepidation.

Quistis' presence in Garden is often intimidating, especially because of her status and achievements.
