Role Okay. So I'll admit it. Gippal doesn't have as big as a physical role as I make him out to have. I mean, besides his little speech with Baralai and Nooj at the end and little things here and there, he doesn't really do much. I tend to like the behind the scenes character, the misunderstood character, or the secondary character, the latter of which suits Gippal perfectly. He doesn't really make a lot of appearances in the game, but whenever he does - especially as the game progress - some part of history is uncovered.Chapter One (or the one with first, but not really important, introductions) Yuna, Rikku, and Paine decide to sign up to dig in the Bikanel Desert. In order to get approval, anyone wishing to do this must first register at Djose Temple, where the Machine Faction is situated. As the leader of the Machine Faction, Gippal conducts these job interviews himself, and that's exactly what you see him first doing: job interviews. Oh, the fun. As he is about to close up interviewing for the day, he spots the Gullwings and leads them to a nearby bridge. He is shocked by the mere notion of a "celebrity" such as Yuna willing to dig in the desert, musters up a few teasing remarks for Rikku, and promptly acts to not know Paine when she gives him a cold look. The interaction between Gippal and Paine is probably the most important in this little conversation as a clue of something funky going on. Chapter Two (or the one in which Gippal does literally nothing) Nothing. Nadda. Zip. If you go to the Djose Temple, you'll see Gippal doing absolutely nothing in his room. Chapter Three (or the one in which I exclaim "Where is the action?! ... and some important stuff) (Djose) Fiends start appearing in the temples and the Gullwings make a visit to Djose Temple. When Yuna and Paine arrive at the scene, they spot Gippal mercilessly teasing Rikku (insert "Where is the action?!"). He appreciates the concern, but says that he doesn't need any help. (Bevelle) At Bevelle's Underground Tunnels, Yuna, Rikku, and Paine find Gippal wandering around. Deciding to be nosy and curious, they naturally follow him and find him, as well as Nooj and Baralai, previously presumed to be missing, in deep conversation. Baralai and Nooj goes into a dangerous verbal fight, and Baralai points his gun up at Nooj. Under Shuyin's control, Nooj (for a very odd reason) points his gun at Gippal, who in turn points his gun at Baralai in hopes of changing the two other leader's minds. When Shuyin noticed how Baralai's anger had taken control of him, Shuyin came out of Nooj's body and went into Baralai's since the Praetor had so much anger there wasn't a clear mind to bar Shuyin's soul out. When Paine rushes in to make them stop this, Nooj falls to the floor after released from Shuyin and a fiend attacks the Gullwings. After the battle, the girls find that the three men had already disappeared. (Farplane) During one of the aftermath of a battle with an aeon that had gotten loose in a temple, Yuna was thrown into one of the black holes. Shuyin appears and scene between him and Yuna occurs. He believes Yuna is his lost love, Lenne, and is determined to use Vegnagun to destroy Spira. After he goes through a portal, Gippal and Nooj suddenly appears. They tell her they are following Baralai under the influence of Shuyin in disguise and each give her one of their Crimson spheres. Chapter Four (or the one with really no Gippal) No Gippal...that I remember anyways. It makes me sad. Chapter Five (or the one with the happy conclusion) (Celsius) A distress signal comes for the Gullwings aboard the Celsius from a sphere that was thrown down in Bevelle earlier. As it turns out, you can find Gippal wandering around, tinkering with it and trying to establish a connection, since the audio doesn't work. Nooj suddenly pops up and they start to talk about Vegnagun. The sphere is cut short abruptly. (Farplane) After passing through the Farplane Glen, the Gullwings find Gippal injured and laying down from his battle. He hands Paine her sphere. When he recovers, he follows the Yuna, Rikku, Paine, and the Leblanc Syndicate to where Vegnagun is located and helps them defeat it. Return: Gippal |
