Rikku

I am, of course, a huge fan of the relationship between Gippal and Rikku. I was never to keen on the pairing between Rikku and Auron, Rikku and Tidus, or even Rikku and Wakka that popped up after the release of Final Fantasy X.

Concerning Auron, of all people:
      - Auron is dead.
      - She's way to outgoing and energetic for our enigmatic Auron. Yes, opposites attract, but in this case I think it's too extreme.
      - Does the word pedophile mean anything to you? Auron's double Rikku's age.

Concerning Tidus: (which only really needs one point)
      - Yuna?! You don't break up a couple S-E specifically made the poster couple of a game, in my opinion anyways.

Concerning Wakka:
      - Considering his hatred of the Al Bhed people in the beginning of the game, I'd imagine that's a huge rift to get over.
      - Not that we find out until X-2, but Wakka and Lulu have a baby together. How are you going to explain that?

So imagine my happiness when Gippal popped up in X-2! From the words "we made quite the couple" at Djose, I was hooked on this pairing. Now this leads up to the contemplation of this fact - when and where during Final Fantasy X would they have ever gotten the chance to interact? Of course, worst case scenario would lead to Gippal only joking about that, but there's the theory that they were together before Final Fantasy X even started and had to separate because of various reasons, the most popular being that Rikku left once she heard about her summoner cousin and that Gippal left to go join the Crusaders, his original goal. During Final Fantasy X, they would have never communicated because Rikku was out protecting Yuna during her pilgrimage, and Gippal was probably performing his duties as a cadet of the Crimson Squad after he got rejected from the Crusaders.

I believe that the compatibility factor between them is very high - they both have similar characteristics and personality traits, as well as having an intense love for machina. There's also the fact that Gippal loves to tease Rikku and also admits that she's "always good for a laugh". And you know what they say about little boys teasing little girls. There's also the fact that their relationship could have first stemmed from friendship - it's obvious that they were childhood friends of some sort, even best friends maybe. The best relationships are known to have first come from friendship.
