Eye Patch

It is never mentioned how Gippal lost his eye or why he wears an eye patch. Of course, being the over analyst I am, or perhaps because of weird side, I thought it would be fun to comtemplate exactly how or why he wears an eye patch.

The most logical answer would be that he lost his eye during some Crimson Squad exercise when he was young. He lost his eye during a battle, when some fiend jabbed out his eye. Or perhaps he fixing some machina when it accidentally poked his eye. They're both likely, yes, but where's the fun in that explanation?

Recently, I've read a fanfiction piece in which Rikku tries to find out the truth behind Gippal's eye patch, only to find that he is in fact not blind in his right eye and only wears it to keep up his cool and sauve persona. It certainly sounds like something Gippal would do - especially if it brings all the ladies - since we all know that famous saying "Good girls like bad guys." All I know is that if that were true, it would certainly help him in the flirtation department.

And of course, a popular belief in the Gippal/Rikku fanfiction world is that Gippal lost his eye in some accident in which he is trying to protect Rikku. This could also certainly be plausible, since Gippal and Rikku have some sort of sibling relationship and certainly do care about each other to some extent. Of course, there was that time when they "made quite the couple", and Gippal could have risked his eye out of love, certainly a very popular use of the fated "accident".

Any way you look at it, the eye patch sure makes him look cool!
